I've been thinking about 'Waking Dream' the clip that was
shown in class. That people are in a 'waking dream' wandering around on
autopilot that everything around them isn't real. It’s a dream world, a fantasy
world that only you exist in. How do you escape from a world that you’re tapped
inside? We read. We watch movies. We look for something to build our minds. We
listen to other people’s thoughts perhaps realizing something that you have been
searching for. Great literature rewires the brain the more challenging the book
is the more it rewires your brain. Maybe that is what people need something to
exercise our minds. Peoples minds have become slow because of the easily accessed information. We discussed Limitless in class. A pill is created to access 100% of a person mind, however; there were side effects of the drug. Once you stopped using the pills you started to die. Man is the only species that doesn't access 100% of their mind. There is potential of a person's mind. Dean Koontz's book Door to December explores the idea. The daughter is placed into a deprivation tank. The theory is people in a deprivation tank can begin to access parts of the unassailable mind. The daughter entity took a life its own, protecting her from harm. Heroes and X-Men also explores this idea that people begin to gain powers for the next stage of evolution. I love the idea that as humans we have untapped potential. That at a point in our lives we will begin to evolve and tap into a part of our psyche that was touched by the gods. By the muses. I feel as if I am trapped in a 'waking dream' wanting to wake up but not sure how. It is the story of Atlantis that Plato tells. That Poseidon ruled over Atlantis. He took a wife and bore sons. The city prospered as long as they obeyed Poseidon's laws, but the people stopped following the law. The God's assembled and passed judgment. Atlantis sunk into the sea. The people of Atlantis stopped believing. They felt they were gods themselves. Perhaps that is why we don't have access to 100% of our minds because being a god needs to be earned, achieved. We just need to wake up.
