Just a Journal

Teach comes from the same root word as  token: The Old English word tacn, meaning "symbol and "to show"

We discussed Robert Green and the philosophical question What would you save if your house is burning to the ground?...I have pondered this question since I heard it on the movie Leap Year. What would I save? Robert Green said he would save his journal and family...The journal was his talisman. He wrote everything about his life so he could remember it at a later date. Teach means "symbol" and "to show" Robert Green's journal was just that, a talisman that showed him his life, his memories. I tried the journal thing, never can keep up with it. But what does bring me joy (from time to time) is looking at photos of memories gone by. What can I say I am a nostalgic sap. I like the saying a picture is worth a thousand words - never tried writing a 1000 words based on one photograph but should try it. Besides a box/photo album, I would save my Tigger stuffed animal. I have had my Tigger for years. He has traveled many a places with me - my comfort animal. A few of my memories that I hope to take with me if my house ever went up in flames (knock on wood)...

Exploring Childhood

"A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every passerby leaves a mark." Old Chinese Proverb

What was it like to be a child? I played sports, read books with my dad, played board games with my parents, built forts, went on adventures in my backyard, played on a trampoline, camped in my front yard, climbed trees, went sledding, went ice skating, played house, played school, played scientist, played with barbie dolls, rode my bike, and wrote short stories. This is what I can remember doing a s a child.
As an adult some of these things have changed: I started speech and debate instead of sports, I read books by myself, still love play board games but have a hard time finding people to play with, don't build forts anymore, I still would jump on a trampoline if one was around, I camp in my parent's backyard when I visit with my boyfriend (he has allergies, and my parents have four pets), don't climb tress, haven't gone sledding for awhile still would though, don't go ice skating, playing house has turned into living on my own, playing school has turned into actually going to school, don't play scientist anymore, don't play with barbie dolls, still ride my bike, and still write stories but instead of using pictures I use words.

Did William Blake have insight into a child's psyche? Muses touch a child bestowing their gifts.
William Blake's Songs of Innocence begin with a poem "To the Muses"

Whether on Ida's shady brow,
Or in the chambers of the East,
The chambers of the sun, that now
         From ancient melody have ceas'd;

Whether in Heav'n ye wander fair,
Or the green corners of the earth,
Or the blue regions of the air,
         Where the melodious winds have birth;

Whether on crystal rocks ye rove,
Beneath the bosom of the sea
Wand'ring in many a coral grove,
         Fair Nine, forsaking Poetry!

How have you left the ancient love
That bards of old enjoy'd in you!
The languid strings do scarcely move!
The sound is forc'd, the notes are few!
Did he see the way a child looks at the world? Taking in everything, asking questions about everything. Perhaps it was Blake exploring his childhood tapping into his own psyche.
I'm a firm believer of Tabula rasa. Tabula rasa is a theory that individuals are born without built-in mental content and that their knowledge comes from experience and perception. Children have that wide eye look because they don't have any information. Over time the muses bestow their gifts helping the children grow but once a child grows and gains experience they are no longer children. They no longer view the world innocently. I don't truly believe that though. I think that people still have a small bit of child left in them. It is that part of an adult that lets them have a collection of stuffed animals and cart a stuffed Tigger everywhere she goes, it is that part that allows an adult to use a lion king blanket, it is that part of an adult that enjoys watching kid, Disney movies, it is that part of an adult that allows a person to create a children's book. Like Jenny of the Falling Waters creating a fictional story introducing characters from the class. A world based in fiction. How many adventures did a child have sitting in an old card board box? It is Calvin's imagination that allows him to see Hobbes as a real tiger. The muses bestow their gifts on us as children hoping that we use those gifts and as children we do. But once we become adults we waste them. We become cynical, depressed, hurtful, jealous...All those emotions that as a child we truly didn't have and if we did it would pass soon there after. Forest Gump had it right that life is like a box of chocolates you never know what your going to get, what is going to happen. As adults we just need to view the world with wide eye and wonder. Experience the adventures you never had as an child.
I felt this poem would be a fitting way to view life as an adult.

“Dance as if no one were watching,

Sing as if no one were listening,

And live every day as if it were your last”

It is a person's bucket list. What do you want to do before you die? Live a life exploring you childhood, exploring the potential of the muses gifts. It is John Milton's Paradise Lost. He told people that the muses whispered him the story and he transcribed what he heard. Maybe Milton was exploring his childhood, delving into his psyche and finding this amazing story about heaven and hell.

Applied Quotes and a few tidbits

I read a book earlier this year Not Another Apple for the Teacher. I wanted to share a few of the quotes and tidbits that I felt resonated with the class.

"Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school." Albert Einstein

"Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school." Albert Einstein

"Learning without thought is labor lost." Confucius

"The teacher who is indeed wise does not bid you to enter teh house of his widom but rather leads you to the threshold of your mind." Kahlil Gibran

Socrates' most famous student was Plato. Plato's most famous student was Aristotle. Aristotle's most famous was Alexander the Great, who used all of that accumulated knowledge to go on a military rampage, conquering pretty much all of the known world.

The last time that American education went through a test-'em-to-death fad was early in the twentieth century. From that testing mania we got IQ tests and the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Test...but we also got tests that purported to measure a child's intelligence and learning by the size and shape of the student's head.

The word school derives from the Greek skhole, which means "leisure." It came from a time when only the children of the idle rich had time to devote to study.

The Primer used every opportunity to teach a grim sort of religion. For example, this alphabet less:
A in Adam's Fall
We sinned all.
B They Life to Men
This book Attend.
C The Cat doth play
And after slay.
D A dog will bite
A Thief at night.
E An Eagle's flight
Is Out of sight.
F The Idle Fool
Is Whipt at School...

Autopilot Potential

I've been thinking about 'Waking Dream' the clip that was shown in class. That people are in a 'waking dream' wandering around on autopilot that everything around them isn't real. It’s a dream world, a fantasy world that only you exist in. How do you escape from a world that you’re tapped inside? We read. We watch movies. We look for something to build our minds. We listen to other people’s thoughts perhaps realizing something that you have been searching for. Great literature rewires the brain the more challenging the book is the more it rewires your brain. Maybe that is what people need something to exercise our minds. Peoples minds have become slow because of the easily accessed information. We discussed Limitless in class. A pill is created to access 100% of a person mind, however; there were side effects of the drug. Once you stopped using the pills you started to die. Man is the only species that doesn't access 100%  of their mind. There is potential of a person's mind. Dean Koontz's book Door to December explores the idea. The daughter is placed into a deprivation tank. The theory is people in a deprivation tank can begin to access parts of the unassailable mind. The daughter entity took a life its own, protecting her from harm.  Heroes and X-Men also explores this idea that people begin to gain powers for the next stage of evolution. I love the idea that as humans we have untapped potential. That at a point in our lives we will begin to evolve and tap into a part of our psyche that was touched by the gods. By the muses. I feel as if I am trapped in a 'waking dream' wanting to wake up but not sure how. It is the story of Atlantis that Plato tells. That Poseidon ruled over Atlantis. He took a wife and bore sons. The city prospered as long as they obeyed Poseidon's laws, but the people stopped following the law. The God's assembled and passed judgment. Atlantis sunk into the sea. The people of Atlantis stopped believing. They felt they were gods themselves. Perhaps that is why we don't have access to 100% of our minds because being a god needs to be earned, achieved. We just need to wake up.

Musey Room

I love playing games. Board games, video games, cards, etc... One of my favorite games is Life. My musey room is based off of the colonial and victorian style house. While growing up I was asked "what I was going to be" my decision changed from an astronaut to astronomer to chemist to architect. I was set on being an architect until my first year in college. I loathe drafting, and architecture requires a lot of drafting. I do enjoy building things though, creating things. My musey-room I created with wood, nails, glue, paint, felt, and printed picture for remembering the epithets. My story starts...

You are on your way to visit me. As your walking along you see Downtown Abbey, you talk with her. She is heading downtown for a drink. She has a date. You bid her well. Chucking to yourself you continue to the house. Once there you see Swift footed Seth running sprints in the yard (picture of a cat) he's getting in shape for a tournament. You see Cameron the Terminator (picture of Arnold Schwarzengger) standing guard over the yard with a rock in his hand tossing it in the air ready for an unwanted visitor. You hear a squeal looking over you see Atypical Angela watching a puppy flying through with a sly grin on her face. Ashley the Kicker of Puppies (a jumping puppy) stood with her arms over her head. She was practicing for a soccer tournament. You asked her why she was kicking puppies she said that they had the same feeling as a soccer ball. You stood horrified as another puppy flew through the air. Turning you walked into the house admiring the porch and the new constructed red door. I enjoy the Rolling Stones song "Red Door"
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
You open the door seeing Nick of the Poptarts standing  (poptarts) eating poptarts, Megan the Mother of the Muses (bun in the oven) putting a bun in the oven, Spencer the Soft Spoken Shaker (a martini shaker) making a cocktail in the corner muttering words under his breathe, Sweet and Spicy Shelby (chocolate and chilies) is cutting up chocolate making Thai food. It smells good. She invites you to dinner. You thank her and continue literally running into Copious Kyle (a guy pacing). You help him up, and he continues pacing. You walk into the study hearing the sweet music of Louie the Winded Woods (saxophone) and Cassidy Euterpe (Euterpe with a flute). Angel of the Meandering Pages is sitting in the corner reading a book listening to the music. You stay here awhile listening to the music. They finish, clapping you leave the room. Walking into the next room Rio the Man Behind the Curtain (wizard of Oz) is setting up a movie for Craig the Grump (Grumpy from Snow White) Quentin the Inquisitor (Dolores Umbridge) and Levi of the Lost Marbles looking for his marbles (marbles). You ask Rio what the movie will be, he shrugs his shoulders saying it will be ready in a few hours. He suggests that you wander outside to watch a play. You head out the other door wandering down the hallway seeing Nate the Enigma (Riddler from Batman) asking riddles of anyone coming into the hallway.
The man who invented it doesn't want it.
The man who bought it doesn't need it.
The man who needs it doesn't know it.
What is it?
You ponder the question, a light bulb goes off. Nate the Enigma claps his hand and bows letting you pass. Jennfier the Charmed (Charmed symbol) is at the end of the hall helping Levi of the Lost Marbles (marbles) find his marbles. You help her but with no prevail. You say sorry and walk outside to see the play. You almost step on Tia of the Crawling Ant (ant) carrying food to the porch. You apologize and continue into the yard. You hear the wails of Tearful Tristan (cartoon of person crying) watching Autumn of the Tragedies (tragedy mask) performing Antigone. Grace the Epithetless (Angel) is behind Autumn of the Tragedies. It seems as if she is hovering above the performance. To the left of the performance is Huckleberry Gage (huckleberry tree) sitting eating huckleberries, Patience Parker (teddy bear sitting, staring) sits quietly as if waiting for something to happen. Walter the Ghetto Prophet ( Gandhi) walks silently up towards Huckleberry Gage and Patient Parker. He stands in front of them and begins to speak. Its an odd set of words.
In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.

You listen quietly but move on when you hear splashing coming from the corner of the yard. You find Breanna of the Fidgeting Whales (humpback whale) splashing in the pond of Jennifer of the Falling Water (waterfall) flows into. You soak your feet after wandering around the house. This is the end of the journey until dinner and the movie.

My home away from home

I have spent a lot of time starting at my bedroom. I have come to realize that I am a materialistic person. Although this is a true fact I still love my room. Let's take a trip...
My door is open next to a blue mesh laundry basket. A six drawer chestnut color dresser which belonged to my niece stands looking out at the rest of the room. The top drawer has two knobs, two eyes that stare drinking everything in its view. My bathroom door sits ajar letting light leak into my bedroom. A plastic storage container that holds towels, that holds incense. A wooden stand crammed with movies, DVDs, starting with the letter M and ending on the letter Y. My movies do not end there another three shelf case holds my nostalgia of VHS cinematic adventures. The adventures that I went on flying into space to stop an asteroid from hitting earth, finding out my one true love lives in a different time line, and that my grandpas aren't actually that crazy even though they have lions as pets. An old analog TV sits on a stand that I put together with a hammer and nails. A VHS and DVD player on the first and on the bottom shelf a Nintendo 64 with a cardboard box containing different worlds in which to loose yourself. A white fan that stands in front of my make shift curtain. A pink geisha woman sitting crossed legged holding a green flower. A green velvet banana chair that I always wanted and found for two dollars. A closet door separating the chair and my bookshelf.  Hiding inside my closet my shirts and holiday decorations. A green Christmas tree sits in the corner waiting for the Santa to come. Closing my closet door, rest in front of my bookshelf. My bookshelf contains books stacked on top and in front of one another. My bookshelf is full. I will need a new shelf or remove bits of my imagination. Another closet door is ajar from all the stuffed animals in front. Hanging off the door is my Koosh basketball hoop. I received as a birthday gift in 4th grade. Stuffed animals sit in the hoop and Bugs Bunny hangs off the hoop swinging on a tire. The closet continued holding pants, skirts, and dresses. On the floor my Lion King, Wall-e, and dragon comforters wait patiently to cover my bed. On my bed is a blue and brown blanket, a big brown teddy bear, A panda bear pillow, a corduroy bear, a little bunny, and a Tigger that goes everywhere with me. A table next to me with water, a book light, my alarm clock, and clickers. My walls contain a poster of "The Lady of Shallot", a lith photo of horses, a poster of a blue fairy standing next to a blue unicorn, two shadow boxes containing photos of my trip to the Bahamas and California, a poster of a red fairy standing on top a cement pillar, a poster of a girl in a graveyard, and a photo of my Tigger doll laying on my white dragon sheets.
My room is full of materials but also of my memories. Memories of the trip I won to the Bahamas, what trips Tigger came with me on, the corduroy bear that came with the book that my sister got as a gift, the bugs bunny on the tire swing that my boyfriend won at six flags in California, the banana chair I found at a garage sale with my 'lil sis from Big Brothers Big Sisters, the photo of horses that I photographed on a random drive out to Trident, and my full bookcase with all the memories of what I read and who I excitedly discussed those stories with.

Nick of the Poptarts

This is just a little blurb about Nick's Epithet. My boyfriend and I were playing Scattergories. If you've never played Scattergories: there are 12 lists with 12 different categories. A 20 letter sided die is rolled to determine which letter is used. One of the categories is Terms of Endearment which prompted a discussion on what a proper term of endearment would be. One of the questions was "could a term of endearment be a pet name?" We decided yes and begun discussing pet names as a joke. After much back and forth about what a good pet name was for each of us: I was dubbed fruit-by-the-foot or fruity foot and his was poptart.  Why I enjoy Nick's epithet so much is because my boyfriend's name is Nick.

Most Memorable part2

So once again I find myself thinking about 'most memorable.' (Randomness: thinking about most memorable makes me think of yearbook and who was voted most memorable.) What was my most memorable moment? After listening and reading a few most memorable moments quite a few of them were painful, surreal memories. Jennifer the Charmed hospital visit, Ashley the Kicker of Puppies bike and car accident, Patient Parker bike accident, Cassidy Euterpe leg breaking. All of these memories were painful, surreal moments that all you think is 'damn' and probably a few other choice words. If I wanted to join in on the merriment I could share my dog incident(s): Over the summer I would be at my grandma Louise's house. I had a few neighborhood friends and my cousin would be there some times. This one day we were playing super Nintendo at one of the neighborhood kids. I didn't really like him, but it was either go home or go play Nintendo at the weird kids house. I voted play Nintendo since I didn't have one. While the boys fought over who played first, Hilliary and I rolled a ball back and forth. The weird kids dog came prancing in and sat next to Hilliary and I. I began petting him while watching the boys play teenage mutant ninja turtles. At one point I looked over at the dog, then blinding bloody pain. I had rolled back clutching my face. The mom was yelling what happened. My guy friends did not know because they had been playing the video game. Hilliary said the dog bit me. The mom was screaming for space. She had pulled my hand back. I heard a 'cool' from one of the boys. I couldn't see, my vision was blurry with my tears and one with my blood. The mom had grabbed a rag pressing it to my face. My memory blurs until I was sitting in the seat of my mom's car as we drove to the emergency room.
Once in the emergency room I found out that the dog had bit my left eyelid. The doctor couldn't give me stitches because of the location. So I was given an eye patch and antibiotic salve which I was to place on my eye every four hours. My eye finally healed, but the story doesn't end. About a week after my eye had healed I went with my mom to grab the mail at the end of  the block. The mail boxes sat in front of a yard with a beautiful husky dog which I had played with once before. I had wandered over, my mom saying be careful, I said don't worry. Next thing I knew the dog had bounded up, knocking me back. My mom was helping me up, something warm was running down my face. Once again I was bit by a dog. A dog that I had petted, played ball with once before had bit me. It was an accident; however, my parents went and talked to the owners. Beware of the dog signs were placed around the yard. I love dogs but after getting bit so close together I had an irrational fear of dogs at least until middle school.
That is one of my most memorable moments...

Most Memorable

Many moments pass throughout a person's life: the moments that make you cry, laugh, sigh, daydream, and the moments that a person can vividly replay over in their mind. Dr. Sexson stated, awhile ago, that we are what we remember. How does what we remember resonate to who we are? I keep thinking of my grandma who suffered from Alzheimer. When she first moved to the states from England she made extra money for the household by starting a small sewing business, she taught piano lessons, and eventually, when there were jobs available, my grandma taught English class. As a daily exercise in class she would have her students read the newspaper and find grammar errors. Years later and before she began suffering from Alzheimer the old habit of correcting grammatical errors in the newspaper still had not died. When my grandma began suffering from Alzheimer my dad would sit her in front of the piano and she would begin to play. It was a semi-therapy for her. For a brief time she would remember other things like what she had for lunch. I read an article awhile back about music therapy for accident victims. The victims of the accidents had pieces of missing memory and through use of different types of music people would remember different events, items in their life. I find the brain an amazing organ. Even after all these years we still have only scrapped the surface of the brain. I would not say this is my most memorable event in my life, but it is just that 'most memorable.'

Elephants Never Forget

"This notion that our brains don't ever really forget is certainly embedded in the way we talk about our memories" is a line from Moonwalking with Einstein when I skimmed over this line all I could think of were elephants. Elephants never forgot. I was watching 60 minutes with my folks when an interview about a lady who was living with elephants for the past 30 years was up next, Cynthia Moss. Cynthia has been living in Africa at the Amboseli National Park studying the park's elephants' behaviors. During the interview she showed footage of her study, one of the reasons she believes that elephants have a working memory that retains information for vast amounts of time is when an elephant dies. The group of elephants bury the dead and have a "sort-of"ceremony where each of the elephants walk by tapping their trunks on the ground where the elephant is buried. Each year the elephants repeat the same process. She also found that elephants have a family structure and when a family member passes the family of that elephant will stand around the grave site for many days like that of a Jewish family.
Elephants mourn when a member of their heard dies, family members grieve for the passed loved one:these actions speak loudly even though there are no words to be said.

Enter through the Red Door

I stand outside my loci. It’s a two story colonial with a mix of Victorian. It is white, the kind of white when you walk by you say “that is a very white house” it has dark blue trim around the roofing, windows, and porch. It has a decent one acre front yard with grass and flower beds around the porch. A white picket fence that looks like it was just white washed by Tom Sawyer himself separates the yard from the sidewalk on which I stand. A cement walkway leads up to the Victorian wraparound style porch. I make my journey to this place and notice that the door is red and to the left of that door is a woman on a rocking chair, knitting.

“Hello my dear. Welcome back. They have been expecting you.

“And you would be?”

Mnemosyne, I am the mother of the muses.”

“Whose has been expecting me?”

“We all have.”

“What are you knitting?”

Socks this will be my 3rd one so far. My girls’ feet get cold since they don’t like wearing shoes so I’m knitting them socks. You best be heading in.”

I grasp the handle of the red door not sure what to expect in this very white house. I enter. The room I enter into is the kitchen various aromas fill my nose. There are three men in the kitchen.

“Hello”

“I hi there we’ve been expecting you.”

“Who are you and what are you doing?”

“Well I am Rueben and these are my two brothers Simeon and Levi. We are cooking dinner for tonight.”

“Dinner?”

“Yes some elk sausage mixed with pickled garlic and cottage cheese, and some peat-smoked salmon for appetizers served with an assortment of crackers. It tastes quite good on crackers and also its Erato’s favorite.”

“Erato?”

“She lives here as well.”

“Well best be getting back to dinner. See you soon.”

I wander into a corridor to find an opening into a room to the left and a closed door to the right. I decide the closed door first. It seems to be a study: a stereotypical study. A fine wooden desk with a computer that sits upon, two upright brown leather chairs, a globe that opens containing 6 bottles of white wine, bookcases filled to the brim with different books and a set of doors that open out onto the porch where a telescope sits next to a beautiful girl.

“Hello”

“Hi, I’m Urania just waiting until its dark so I can study the constellations.”

“Fun,”

“Hello Clio

I turn to see another woman holding a book titled Death in the City of Light: The Serial Killer of Nazi-Occupied Paris. She sits on one of the brown leather chairs.

“It is starting to sound like a mad house out there. I was hoping for some peace and quiet to read my new book about the Holocaust, but no. I hope you don’t mind sharing your study.”

“No I don’t sister dear.”

I turn to leave but before I do, “could you do me a favor and email Sophie asking her to find the Paul Newman film Somebody up there Likes Me.”

“Sure,” I email Sophie and also research what the Paul Newman film is about because apparently we will be watching it after dinner. I then take my leave and pass into the room across the hall where I met with an interesting scene. Two females are arguing over a megaphone and director’s chair. The rest of the room was normal enough a wraparound blue suede coach and a fireplace. The room was rather barren but perhaps suited for the two girls needs. I could make out snippets from their argument.

“No we are doing Antony and Cleopatra. It is my turn to be the director and choose the before dinner entertainment.”

“No it is my turn and we are doing The Revengers' Comedies.”

Before I was able to say anything a hand grasped my shoulder.

“Don’t bother Thalia and Melpomene have been like this for 20 minutes or so. They will soon realize that the best way to answer the question is to ask my brothers Dan and Naphtali who were in the last play.”

“What was the last play they did?”

I Hate Hamlet

Judah, could you fetch your brothers Dan and Naphtali for us. Thank you.”

“I can only guess where they will be. Come on then you can meet some of my other brothers because they will probably be there as well.”

We left heading through a different door at the opposite end of the room. We entered into a hallway. At the end of the hallway a bathroom and to the left was a door leading to the backyard. Judah suggested that I visit the backyard at one point while I was visiting. A few paces before the bathroom there are stairs tucked behind the wall. We wandered up the stairs to another corridor with doors randomly spaced throughout. Only one door was opened and words were sensuously echoing down the hall towards us. I shivered as did Judah.

Erato has that effect on people.”

We stopped outside her door listening as she was reciting a poem

In silence I grieve

That thy heart could forget,

Thy spirit deceive.

If I should meet thee

After long years,

How should I greet thee?

With silence and tears.

As she finished a sigh whispered like a chorus around her bedroom. There were six guys and one female in this room. Her room was pink, red, and white like a Valentine’s shop exploded inside this room; however, her room also had a hint of black mixed in making it sensual. This sensual feeling was exaggerated by the harness and ropes hanging in the corner and the one female that was in the room was dressed in a skin-toned cat suit.

“Hello Judah.”

“Hello Erato I am in need of my two brothers Dan and Naphtali.”

“What!”

“You are needed downstairs to settle a fight.”

Two of the guys stood and walked out of the bedroom. The remaining guys scooted closer together in front of the bed that Erato was playfully nestling in.

“The remaining are a few of my other brothers: Gad, Asher, and Issachar. The other three are probably in the backyard. You should head out there now. The play will be starting soon, then dinner, then the Paul Newman film.”

Judah squeezed himself in among his brothers. I could hear Erato giggles carrying down the stairs as I headed to the backyard. I made a quick bathroom break then entered into the backyard. The backyard was gorgeous. You could see part of the porch peeking into the backyard with bushes surrounding it, trying to hide it from are view. There was a cobble, smoothed over patio that I was standing on. Weeping Willows were scattered around the yard and a pond with a surrounding Zen garden. I heard music coming from around one of the trees. I rushed over to see who was playing such an enchanting sound. There were three females along with males behind this tree. One of the sisters was playing a harp, another sister was twirling around with 3 hula hoops and a snorkel in her mouth, and the last sister was reciting Beowulf. The three males sat with their backs against the tree watching the three women.

“Hi,”

“Hello there,” they all said even the dancing hula hooping girl with the snorkel in her mouth.

The girl who was playing the harp introduced herself as Euterpe along with everyone else: The girl who was hula hoop dancing was Terpsichore; the girl who was reciting Beowulf was Calliope, and the three males were introduced as Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin, the last three sons of Jacob.

A load voice echoed throughout the house into the backyard.

“Jacob is home, the play is about to begin, and dinner will soon be ready.”

“Best be heading in then,” Dinah said.

We all began heading back to the house. The three men were carrying the harp as us girls were chit-chatting about the-this and that. As we neared the door an odd looking device with blue liquid was attached next to it.

“Good timing. Looks like it will be raining soon.” Calliope said.

“I’m so glad Jacob installed the barometer. It has saved us from some down pours.”

We entered into the same in which Thalia and Melpomene had been fighting in earlier. The room still had the wraparound style couch and fireplace; however, the room was filled with smoke from the dry ice machine sitting on fireplace mantle. The gaggle of sisters and brothers were sitting side by side on the couch along with Mnemosyne and, I can only assume, Jacob. The abridged version of Anthony and Cleopatra began and soon ended. We ventured into the kitchen for some tasty dinner. Here I met the last sister, Polyhymnia. She recited some hymns before sitting down to eat. The appetizer of peat-smoked salmon on Ritz crackers was the best. After dinner we moved back into the room with the wraparound coach to see a TV and DVD player had been added. We all took a seat and ended the evening with the Paul Newman film “Somebody up there Likes Me.”

Erato was reciting the last line of:
